It was introduced to Peninsular Malaysia, then Malaya, in the 1870s by the British as an ornamental plant. In 1905, Henri Fauconnier, a French entrepreneur, arrived in Malaya and later established a coffee plantation in Rantau Panjang, Selangor. Uncertainties in coffee and rubber prices prompted Fauconnier to experiment with oil palm planting. He had heard about the oil palm from his friend in 1906 and in 1911, visited his friend’s oil palm plantation in Deli, Sumatera, to obtain a few seedlings (Deli Dura species) to plant. Convinced that the crop was viable, Fauconnier finally decided to plant the crop for its oil at Tennamaram Estate in Selangor in 1917; effectively laying the foundation for the development of the palm oil industry in Malaysia.” title_text=”Fact 1″ show_in_lightbox=”on” url_new_window=”off” use_overlay=”off” animation=”left” sticky=”off” align=”left” force_fullwidth=”off” always_center_on_mobile=”on” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid” /][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

Some of the carotenoids in RPO are converted to vitamin A in our body; the rest of the carotenoids, together with vitamin E (particularly tocotrienols), are reported to play a vital role in advanced nutrition-boosting the immune system, scavenging damaging reactive oxygen species in our body and are involved in complex mechanisms which have evolved to protect the body from chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancers of the breast and skin. ” /][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

With an unstable oil, the fatty acids of the oil split up to form ‘breakdown’ products, attacks by air and moisture form oxidised products and non-volatiles (called polar materials are formed and accumulated in the frying medium. The oil oxidises and forms polymers that cause the kitchen walls to be sticky. Additionally the non-volatiles spoil the quality and the taste of the fried food and pose health risks in the long term. A stable cooking oil such as palm olein prevents the above from occuring; thus the undesirable effects of high temperature frying.” /][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

A growing need for palm oil and an emphasis on research are adding new jobs to the Malaysian economy every year. Significant investment in developing new downstream sectors and harnessing palm oil biomass will create more than new 66,000 jobs. With the reliable oil yields and long-term planting cycles, farmers have secured a reliable income for their families and benefited from the income and stability.
